City of Longview      City of Kelso

Ideally situated on the Columbia and Cowlitz Rivers between Seattle, WA and Portland, OR, the Longview-Kelso area offers residents a comfortable, rural lifestyle rich with opportunities for year-round outdoor recreation.

The entire area is known for fishing, hiking and boating. There are over 400 acres of public parks including Longview’s crown jewel Lake Sacajawea (right), a 1.5 mile-long park in the heart of the city.

Longview and Kelso residents have an easy drive to the big Northwest cities ― 45 miles down Interstate-5 to Portland and 120 miles up I-5 to Seattle. The Pacific Ocean is just a little over an hour away. As the gateway to Mount St. Helens (left), the area has two visitor centers along the Spirit Lake Memorial Highway leading into the blast zone.

Longview residents are proud of their tradition and heritage.  A planned city, Longview was founded by Kansas City timber baron Robert A. Long who purchased 14,000 acres of Columbia River valley to build a lumber mill and accompanying town.  Construction began in 1922 and by 1927 the town was mostly complete.  Today, Mr. Long’s vision has become reality, a unique blending of commercial, industrial and residential interests benefiting the entire area.

The 2009 World Series is also being hosted by the city of Kelso. Kelso is named for founder Peter Crawford, who hailed from the Scottish town of the same name.  It features Tam O'Shanter Park, beautiful Rister Stadium, a historic downtown train depot, the Cowlitz County Museum and the official World Series hotel, the Kelso Red Lion Inn.

Longview-Kelso welcomes you to the 2009 World Series. We think you’ll enjoy your visit!
